Police inspector shoots himself accidentally while chasing thieves in Kiambu

A police inspector attached to Thindigua Police Post in Kiambu County was seriously injured after shooting himself in his left thigh.

The officer was chasing a gang that had stolen a gate from a construction site when the incident happened.

According to the police report, the victim was drawing his Ceska pistol from his waist when he accidentally pulled the trigger, firing into his left thigh.

He was rushed to the hospital and admitted pending surgery to remove the lodged bullet.

However, other officers intervened, arrested the suspects and recovered the stolen gate. 

The suspects are in police custody and will be arraigned in court on Monday September 1, 2025 to face charges.

Elsewhere in Murang’a County, another police officer was injured while on duty in Gitugi, Mathioya. 

The officer fell into a ditch while on patrol and hurt his left hand.

In Kisii, police have launched investigations after a senior female officer fired two shots in the air during a confrontation with her husband near Kisii University. 

The national police service confirmed she was questioned over unlawful use of a firearm.
