Police intensify nationwide crackdown on drugs and illicit alcohol

The National Police Service (NPS) has reaffirmed its commitment to public safety with successful operations targeting the trafficking of narcotics and the distribution of illicit alcohol in different parts of the country. These simultaneous efforts highlight a sustained, nationwide campaign against illegal substances.

On Saturday, 29th November 2025, officers from Matete Police Station in Kakamega County conducted an operation against illicit alcohol in the Makhukuni area.

The action resulted in the arrest of five suspects and, recovery of 35 litres of chang’aa, an illegal brew.

The suspects are currently in custody awaiting the necessary processing before being arraigned in court.

In a separate operation, police in Kuresoi North stepped up their efforts against drug trafficking in the Nyota Sub-Location.

Officers successfully intercepted three suspected drug peddlers in the Kwa Manga area.

Arresting three suspects and recovering multiple rolls of cannabis sativa (narcotics) from the trio.

These suspects are also being held as police complete their investigation and preparation for court proceedings.

The National Police Service remains dedicated to combating the circulation of all illegal drugs and alcohol to safeguard public welfare and promote a safer environment for citizens.

Similar operations are expected to continue indefinitely as part of the sustained national effort to eliminate the threat of illegal substances from local communities.
