Police intercept 80 litres of ‘naisu’ in Maua as CS Murkomen’s directive sustains

Police officers from Maua Police Station in Igembe South Sub-County, Meru County, intercepted a motorcycle carrying illicit brew during a patrol at Antubochiuo Location.

The motorcycle was carrying four jerricans of an illicit brew known as Naisu, totalling 80 litres. The rider, however, managed to escape.

The motorcycle was impounded, and the liquor secured as evidence.

Elsewhere, NPS officers from Rodi Police Station, while on patrol, flagged down a motorbike rider carrying a suspicious package.

Upon searching the package, they discovered 98 large rolls of cannabis sativa. The suspect was arrested and is being held in custody at Rodi Police Station, awaiting processing and arraignment in court.

These incidents follow the arrest of a suspected drug peddler in Ziwani area, Garissa town.

Upon searching him, police officers found 20 balls of cannabis sativa (bhang) in a red carrier bag and KSh 1,800 in various denominations, which is suspected to be proceeds from the sale of the drugs.

The suspect was placed in custody at Garissa Police Station, awaiting processing and arraignment in court. The cannabis was secured as an exhibit at the same station.

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen last week put on notice rogue business persons engaged in the illicit trade, announcing a 100-day Rapid Result Initiative (RRI) to rid the country of the menace.

The CS noted that the manufacture, sale and consumption of illicit alcohol and narcotics remain a major national security threat and directed sub-county security teams to engage local stakeholders to curb the prevalence.

He issued a stern warning to politicians who allegedly support this illegal business, claiming that complicity by officers seeks to kill businesses.
