Police intercept a Toyota Land Cruiser in Narok, seize 600 brooms of bhang

Police in Narok East Sub-County have launched a manhunt for two suspects who abandoned a vehicle loaded with cannabis sativa (bhang) after a dramatic chase along the Narok–Mai Mahiu Highway.

The incident unfolded on the evening of July 1, 2025 when officers from Ntulele Police Station flagged down a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado suspected to be ferrying narcotics from Kisii to Nairobi. The driver defied police orders and sped off, sparking a high-speed pursuit.

According to authorities, the chase ended when the vehicle veered off the main road and developed mechanical problems along the Nairegie Enkare feeder road. The two male occupants then fled into nearby maize plantations, managing to evade arrest.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered three sacks filled with approximately 600 brooms of bhang, concealed in the car’s cargo area. Both the narcotics and the vehicle were taken to Ntulele Police Station for further processing.

“This seizure is a major step in our efforts to disrupt the supply chain of illegal drugs. We urge members of the public to continue supporting us with timely information,” the National Police Service said in a statement. “We commend the public for their vigilance and urge ongoing cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.”

Elsewhere, in Kamukulu, Ruai Sub-County, police arrested a suspect in possession of 5,660 rolls of bhang during an operation to combat drug trafficking.

Investigations are still ongoing, as police appeal to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the two Narok suspects to come forward.
