Police officers stabs colleague to death, injures his boss in Laikipia

A police officer has reportedly been stabbed to death by his colleague in Laikipia West Constituency following an altercation on Friday, January 2 evening.

Police Constable Victor Chesang’ Mengich, attached to Salama Police Post, is said to have been on duty on the fateful day when a dispute arose between him and Constable Abel Kivoto Kimanzi.

Preliminary reports indicate that at the time of the incident, the officer in charge of the police station, Sergeant Wahome Mugai Muiruri, was at the shopping centre.

Upon hearing the distress calls, he rushed to the scene and saw Mengich and Kimanzi wrestling. Before he could even intervene, Mengich, holding a knife at this point, stabbed Kimanzi on the left side of the stomach. He died after bleeding profusely.

Meanwhile, Muigai and another officer tried to subdue Mengich but in vain, sustaining injuries in the process. It took the efforts of members of the public to help arrest officer Mengich.

The two officers, who sustained head and arms injuries, were rushed to Salama Dispensary where they received initial treatment before being referred to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital for further medical attention.

The body of the deceased was taken to Pope Benedict XVI Catholic Hospital Mortuary.
