The National Police Service (NPS) has launched an investigation into a video circulating on social and mainstream media, which allegedly shows Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi abandoned at a farm in Juja Kiambu county. The incident comes as Koimburi faces an ongoing land fraud investigation.
According to a press statement from the Office of the Inspector General, the MP has been under scrutiny for a land fraud case, with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) having already issued consent for his prosecution.
According to the statement, on Friday, May 23, police, aware of the intention to arrest Koimburi, set up a dragnet operation. However, the MP evaded capture by escaping on a motorcycle with his private security and switching off his mobile phone. His vehicle, found with only the driver inside, was intercepted, and the driver was briefly detained for questioning before being released.
The statement clarifies that Koimburi resurfaced today, following widespread claims of his abduction. Police from Juja visited the alleged scene, documenting the area, while a special team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters is analyzing the video and all related circumstances to establish the facts.
The NPS reaffirmed its commitment to protecting all Kenyans and ensuring that all reported cases are thoroughly and swiftly investigated to bring those responsible to justice.
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to conclusively determine the truth behind the alleged abduction and the events surrounding the MP’s disappearance.
