Police officers on Friday, January 30 recovered 13 guns alongside 10 magazines and 22 rounds of ammunition in the volatile Kerio Valley region, even as the National Police Service (NPS) continues to intensify operations aimed at recovering illegal firearms and conducting peaceful disarmament exercises.
In a critical step in restoring peace and protecting communities affected by banditry in the region, the NPS officers — acting on intelligence — traced the weapons to areas that have previously experienced security challenges, with seven rifles recovered in Baringo County and six in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
“As part of these sustained efforts, the National Police Service has recorded notable success through intelligence-led operations conducted in known hotspots,” the NPS says. “Beyond the numbers, these operations disrupt criminal networks, deter violent crime, and help rebuild confidence among affected communities.”
Each weapon, the NPS says, removed from illegal possession represents a reduced threat. “The continued recovery of illicit weapons underscores the importance of collective efforts, in which security agencies, local leadership, and citizens work together towards lasting peace and security.”
