Police recover 2 AK47 rifles as bandit surrenders in Kerio Valley

A bandit who has been troubling residents in the Kerio Valley has finally surrendered to the police.

According to the area OCPD Zablon Otieno, so far they have received two AK-47 rifles, 39 rounds of ammunition, and three magazines from two bandits who voluntarily surrendered.

The bandit, identified as Ruto Komen, surrendered himself on Sunday September 7, 2025, handing over an AK-47 rifle he had been using, 27 rounds of ammunition, and one magazine.

Otieno said that after lengthy discussions with the bandit in his office, they were able to reach an agreement and allowed him to reunite with his family.

He added that they will continue encouraging more bandits to surrender until all illegal firearms are recovered.

At the same time, the OCPD advised residents who  are still in possession of illegal firearms to take the step of surrendering them to the government.
