Police officers in Uasin Gishu County have intensified operations targeting the production and distribution of illicit alcohol and prohibited substances as part of continued efforts to shield communities from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
During an operation in the Jua Kali Centre area of Turbo Sub-County, officers recovered approximately 70 litres of chang’aa from several suspected dealers.
A number of suspects were arrested for possession of illicit brew and other drug-related offences and are currently in police custody awaiting arraignment in court.
The recovered chang’aa has been secured as exhibits.
The operation forms part of the National Police Service’s sustained crackdown on illicit brews and narcotics, which continue to pose a serious threat to public health, safety, and social stability across the country.
In a separate but related incident, a suspected drug trafficker was arrested and bhang worth Ksh 8.1 million seized following a police chase along the Eldoret – Nakuru Highway on March 14, 2026.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit in the Rift Valley Region intercepted a blue Toyota Voxy, registration number KCS 496B, during a routine patrol after the vehicle aroused suspicion.
The driver ignored orders to stop at a roadblock and sped off, prompting officers to give chase towards the Kaptembwa area.
In a bid to halt the fleeing vehicle, detectives managed to deflate its right front tyre. Undeterred, the driver pressed on towards the 140 Area before eventually abandoning the car in a vacant plot near Kaptembwa Police Station and attempting to flee on foot. He did not get far.
The suspect, identified as David Muraya, 35, was swiftly apprehended by the pursuing officers.
