A multi-agency team comprising police officers and officials from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) conducted a dramatic raid on a private residence in the Sinai area of Moiben Sub-county on Saturday May 24, 2025 at night, seizing thousands of bottles of counterfeit alcohol.
The operation that was part of an intensified crackdown on illicit liquor in Uasin Gishu County, also led to the confiscation of a machine suspected to be used in producing fake KRA seals, along with several liters of ethanol.
One suspect was apprehended during the raid, while several others managed to escape.
Meanwhile, authorities have launched investigations to track down those who fled the scene.
The street value of the seized goods has not yet been determined, but officials estimate it could amount to several million shillings.
This latest operation is part of a broader effort by law enforcement to curb the escalating trade in counterfeit and illicit alcohol in the region.
In recent months, similar operations have been carried out in different parts of Uasin Gishu, with authorities raising alarm over the increasing scale and sophistication of the illegal trade.
Police believe that the production and distribution of these illicit brews are now taking place in high-end residential neighborhoods—areas previously not suspected of housing such activities.
This shift has made detection more challenging, allowing the trade to flourish behind closed doors.
However, the government, through multi-agency teams, has pledged to sustain the crackdown and is urging residents to report any suspicious activities.
