Law enforcement officers in Kwale County have ramped up efforts to combat drug possession and trafficking as part of a broader campaign to shield local communities from the dangers of substance abuse.
Officers from Diani Police Station, acting on intelligence, conducted a targeted raid at Mwakipeku Village in Kinondo Ward, Msambweni Sub-County, where they seized 1,858 rolls of cannabis sativa.
A suspect nabbed at the scene is currently in custody awaiting arraignment, with the confiscated drugs preserved as evidence.
In a similar operation, Kitui County witnessed a major crackdown on drug trafficking following a dawn raid by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).
Officers from NACADA’s Nairobi headquarters executed simultaneous raids in the early hours of Thursday, April 2, targeting a suspected high-profile trafficker’s residence and commercial premises.
The coordinated operation yielded over 5,600 rolls of ready-to-use bhang, three rolling flags, cannabis in various other forms, polythene bags, weighing scales, and rolling papers, with the total seizure valued at one million shillings.
The suspect was arrested and taken into custody.
The National Police Service underscored its unwavering resolve to fight drug trafficking and abuse.
NPS noted that the menace continues to pose a serious threat to public safety and the wellbeing of communities across the region.
