‘Pray for our country and my plans,’ President Ruto says during church service

President William Ruto on November 30, 2025 attended a church service at the Africa Inland Church (AIC) Milimani, where he delivered a deeply personal address focused on the country’s direction. The President, who is a founder member of the church, used the occasion to reflect on the church’s humble beginnings.

He congratulated the congregation on the elevation of the church and the appointment of the new Bishop, Myori, noting the journey from its start in a tent to its current status.

“The same God who took us from a tent to a church and an area and a bishop is the same God who can change the destiny of our nation.”

President Ruto’s core message was a direct appeal to the church and all Kenyans to pray for the nation’s leaders and its future. He emphasised that leadership is a divine appointment, irrespective of political affiliation.

The President urged the public to pray for those serving in leadership and for his administration’s major plans.

“Pray for elected leaders to discover the will of God for the nation. Pray for the specific plans and programmes laid out by the government for Kenya.”

He stressed that no leader is elected by chance, stating, “It is God who determines leadership”

The President expressed great confidence in Kenya’s economic rebound and future trajectory. He reflected on the challenges faced in the recent past, crediting divine intervention for the current improvements.

The recent completion and launch of major infrastructure projects were cited as key examples of progress.

He highlighted the healing of the economy, which was struggling just a few years ago, the launch of a 175-kilometre road stretch set to unlock the potential of a significant part of the country and plans to undertake four, five, or six more major infrastructure projects in the coming year.

Perhaps the most ambitious claim of the address was the President’s vision for Kenya’s long-term development. Drawing inspiration from the church’s growth from a four-family congregation to an area headquarters, he set a bold timeline for the country’s development.

“I have no doubt in my mind that it is possible to move Kenya from a third world country to a first world country before I die. It’s possible in the next… by the time I get to 90, Kenya should be a first world country.”

He concluded by urging all citizens to believe in themselves and the country’s potential to achieve this transformation within the next three decades, reinforcing his belief that “we will do it.”
