Premier League notebook: Arsenal widens the gap, Chelsea boosts Champions League push, West Ham revival continues

Bukayo Saka marked a historic milestone with the winning goal as Arsenal F.C. edged past Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. 1-0 in a crucial Premier League clash that tightened the title race.

The England winger celebrated his 300th appearance for Arsenal in style, scoring the decisive goal just nine minutes into the match.

The strike Arsenal’s 99th goal of the season came after his shot took a deflection that wrong-footed Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen and slipped through his legs.

To mark the milestone, Arsenal added a small detail to the back of Saka’s shirt, printing “300” beneath the collar.

At 24 years and 180 days, he became the fourth-youngest player to reach 300 appearances for the club, behind David O’Leary, Cesc Fàbregas and Liam Brady.

Brighton pushed hard for an equaliser, but Arsenal held firm defensively, with Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhães producing a crucial header off the line among several clearances in the first half. The victory moved Arsenal seven points clear at the top of the table.

Man City slip as Forest hold Champions

Elsewhere, defending champions Manchester City F.C. dropped vital points after a dramatic draw against Nottingham Forest F.C., dealing a blow to their title hopes.

Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo continued his impressive form, scoring for City after his January move from AFC Bournemouth.

However, goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson ensured Forest twice came from behind to claim a valuable point in their fight against relegation.

City midfielder Rodri had briefly restored the hosts’ lead, but Forest’s resilience kept them just outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

West Ham revival continues

At the bottom end of the table, West Ham United F.C. continued their remarkable resurgence under head coach Nuno Espírito Santo.

Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville scored again to maintain his strong run of form, having netted six goals in nine games since ending a long goal drought earlier in the season.

West Ham are now level on 28 points with Forest and just one behind Tottenham Hotspur F.C..

Chelsea boost Champions League push

Meanwhile, Chelsea F.C. boosted their hopes of securing a UEFA Champions League spot with a dominant win over Aston Villa F.C..

Brazilian striker João Pedro starred with a hat-trick, taking his tally to 10 goals in 11 matches since being deployed as a central striker by head coach Liam Rosenior. He also set up a goal for England international Cole Palmer.

Goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen justified Rosenior’s decision to drop Robert Sánchez with a crucial save to deny Ollie Watkins.

Newcastle Hand Man United first defeat under Carrick

Newcastle United F.C. handed Manchester United F.C. their first defeat under interim boss Michael Carrick.

After a chaotic first-half stoppage time that saw Jacob Ramsey sent off, Anthony Gordon score a penalty and Casemiro equalise for United, the match remained finely balanced.

Former Arsenal F.C. goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale made several key saves for Newcastle before substitute William Osula sealed victory with a stunning solo goal.

The result tightened the race for European qualification, with only three points separating the teams between third and sixth place in the Premier League standings.
