Truphena Muthoni has received the Head of State Commendation Medal following her 72 hour-long tree-hugging challenge. The Head of State Commendation is one of the awards the President can bestow upon citizens who have contributed to their communities.
“As a mark of national honour for her exemplary service to environmental stewardship, I have conferred upon Truphena Muthoni the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal,” the President stated on Monday December 15, 2025
In addition to that, Truphena has also been appointed as the Ambassador of the 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign. This campaign was launched on 22nd December 2022.
This move is aimed at reducing greenhouse emissions, stopping and reversing deforestation. This is a signature national initiative dedicated to securing Kenya’s environmental future.
To show appreciation, the Kenya Wildlife Services and the Kenya Tourism Board have gifted her and her team a fully sponsored holiday experience.
The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry pledged support for Truphena to visit Brazil. This will further allow her to promote global conservation initiatives and broaden her exposure to environmental leadership.
“I had the pleasure of engaging with her in my office following her remarkable and record-breaking act of spending 72 continuous hours embracing an indigenous tree; a deeply symbolic gesture aimed at raising national and global awareness on environmental conservation and climate change,” the President added.
Truphena Muthoni’s dedication and perseverance have shed a positive light on Kenya’s efforts towards environmental conservation.
