President William Ruto on November 3, 2025 issued a message of congratulations to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following her re-election.
In his message on X, President Ruto extended his “sincere congratulations” to President Suluhu on her electoral victory and emphasized Kenya’s commitment to sustaining bilateral cooperation and East African integration.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Kenya, and on my own behalf, I extend sincere congratulations to Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election in the General Election,” the post reads.
President Suluhu was declared the outright winner of the 29 October 2025 general election in Tanzania, after securing an overwhelming share of the vote. Official results indicate 97.66 percent of ballots in her favour.
Her win, however, is shadowed by serious criticism from the main opposition and international observers, who argue that the poll lacked competitive credibility. For President Suluhu, the congratulatory message serves as a symbolic greenlight from a key neighbor.
By publicly endorsing the outcome of the election, Nairobi signals confidence in continuity of state-to-state relations.
For now, the tone is one of formal cordiality, a public nod from President Ruto to his neighbour.
