President Ruto donates Ksh1 million for KK Mwenyewe’s funeral

Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy, Dennis Itumbi has revealed that President William Ruto was among leaders who contributed to the funeral arrangements of comedian Zakaria Kariuki, commonly known as KK Mwenyewe.

In a statement on his official X account, Itumbi stated that President Ruto contributed Ksh1 million, while Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika contributed Ksh200,000.

KK Mwenyewe, the beloved content creator widely known for his hilarious skits mimicking former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, passed away recently while receiving treatment for a recurring stomach condition at a Kiambu Level 5 hospital.

On Monday, July 21, 2025, content creators, fans, and other key players in the creative industry gathered at the Blue Springs Hotel along Thika Road in honour of KK and to raise funds for his burial.

Also among the attendees was Dennis Itumbi, bearing contributions from President Ruto and several other politicians.

“The President, Dr. William Ruto,” Itumbi said, “amesema hata mkisema must go, ametoa Ksh1 million.”

“The governor of Nakuru, Madam Susan Kihika, amenipigia nikamwambia niko kwa hii function, amenitumia Ksh. 200k. Hii team yote, Radial, MCA, wote wameniongezea Ksh. 100k. Mimi, nitaweka Ksh. 100k. MP wa mahali tunaenda kupumzisha ndugu yetu, ametoa Ksh. 100k.”

He further added that Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa contributed Ksh100,000.

The family collectively set Wednesday, July 23, 2025, as the burial date. KK Mwenyewe will be laid to rest at his rural home in Lari, Githirioni Village, Kiambu County.
