President William Samoei Ruto has shared recent images showing the ongoing construction of the Talanta Stadium. The update confirms that work on the ambitious project is “on course” as Kenya prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027) tournament.
The images, which are aerial views of the site, show the distinctive design of the stadium beginning to take form.
The construction photos reveal that the stadium’s large, oval-shaped structure with complex exterior framework, and the surrounding area, indicating the site’s proximity to a major roadway and urban development.
President Ruto’s brief but positive message focused entirely on the progress of the construction. The stadium will have a capacity of 60,000 spectators.
Kenya, along with Uganda and Tanzania, will jointly host the prestigious continental football tournament, the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027. This joint bid, dubbed the Pamoja Bid, will see East Africa hosting the AFCON for the first time since 1976.
The new Talanta Stadium is set to be a key venue for the competition. It represents a significant investment in modern sports infrastructure, which is necessary to meet the demanding standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The successful and timely completion of the stadium is vital not only for the tournament but also for boosting sports in the region.
