President Ruto inspects Kasarani Stadium ahead of next month’s 2024 CHAN

President William Ruto today led a final inspection of the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, affirming Kenya’s preparedness to host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) next month.

The iconic stadium has undergone extensive upgrades, ensuring full compliance with stringent Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) standards, ahead of both CHAN 2024 and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.

“Today, we can proudly say that we are going to host CHAN on August 3,” President Ruto stated, during a visit to the Harambee Stars players training at the venue.

He assured the national team of full government support, urging them to represent the country diligently and make Kenyans proud. “We believe in you. We trust you… and we will proudly cheer you to victory.”

Earlier, Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen (Internal Security) and Salim Mvurya (Sports) inspected Kasarani, Nyayo National Stadium, and designated training grounds in Nairobi.

Murkomen emphasized that comprehensive security protocols are in place, assuring Africa and the world of a safe and welcoming environment for the tournament, co-hosted with Uganda and Tanzania from August 2 to 30.

He confirmed all CAF-recommended adjustments have been fully implemented.

In a major boost for continental unity and fan attendance, the government announced visa-free entry into Kenya for all African nationals for the duration of the tournament.

CHAN 2024 is set to kick off on August 3 at Kasarani Stadium, where hosts Kenya will face two-time winners DR Congo in the Group A opener.

Later that day, Nyayo Stadium will host the clash between former champions Morocco and Angola.
