President Ruto meets Kitui leaders ahead of Mashujaa Day fete

President William Ruto on Wednesday October 8, 2025 met with political leaders from Kitui County at State House, Nairobi as part of his continued engagement with various leaders from across the country.

On his X official account, Ruto said the meeting’s agenda was for “marshalling the support of all Kenyans in our agenda to transform our country from Third World status to a prosperous nation that serves all citizens.”

The delegation led by former Senator David Musila attended the meeting with the primary objective to review and strategize implementing key development projects in Kitui County, particularly in sectors important to the region.

The President consistently uses these meetings to call for unity among regional leaders, regardless of their political party affiliation, to accelerate service delivery and progress in their respective counties.

The meeting is also likely to involve discussions on the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebrations to be held at Ithookwe stadium on the 20th October 2025.

The official theme for the 2025 celebrations in Kitui is Transforming Lives through Sustainable Energy, highlighting the government’s investments in affordable power, renewable energy, and industrialization.

Cabinet Secretary for Sports Salim Mvurya and Principal Secretary for Internal Security Raymond Omollo led the technical inspections and assured the country that the preparations are on the fast track.

Speaking from the venue, Sports CS Mvurya affirmed that the location and preparations are “92% done ” and “instructions have been given to complete the remaining within a week.”

The government officials emphasized that the infrastructure development, the stadium, roads, water, and electricity upgrades, were a lasting legacy of hosting the national holiday, designed to support sports, cultural events, and the local economy for years to come.

There was a known delay in the stadium’s handover to the celebrations committee, with the new target being October 14, 2025.
