President Ruto praises his Deputy Kindiki, saying he now has someone who understands government

President William Ruto has publicly lauded his current Deputy President, Professor Kithure Kindiki, describing him as supportive, composed, and committed to advancing the government’s agenda.

Speaking during the launch of the Human-Wildlife Conflict Compensation Fund at Meru National Park, Ruto emphasized Kindiki’s dedication not only to the people of Meru but to all Kenyans.

“Professor knows that he is not for the Meru people alone, he is for every Kenyan,” Ruto told the crowd, a remark widely seen as a subtle rebuke of his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.

Ruto appointed Kindiki following a fallout with Gachagua, who was impeached after accusations of failing to support the president’s initiatives and engaging in divisive tribal politics. In a candid interview during his pre-Mt. Kenya tour, Ruto criticized Gachagua for being quick to anger and for conflicts with his close aides.

“I’m very proud to have a deputy who understands government and what we are doing in infrastructure, education, and agriculture and is supportive to the ministers and myself to make sure Kenya is going forward,” Ruto said, praising Kindiki’s calm demeanor and collaborative approach.

The president also condemned tribalism and divisiveness, contrasting Kindiki’s inclusive leadership style with Gachagua’s alleged tribal tendencies. “We have no time for tribalists and people who are incompetent and those who want to divide our nation on ethnic and personal lies. We are united as a people and Kenya is going to march forward as one united, indivisible country,” Ruto affirmed in January 2025.
