President Ruto reaffirms commitment to empowering small enterprises

President William Ruto has reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), describing them as the backbone of Kenya’s economic growth.

Speaking on June 27 during the World MSME Day celebrations held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, the President underscored the sector’s critical role in innovation, job creation, and the empowerment of youth and women.

“Small enterprises are the engines of our economic growth. They not only drive innovation but also support livelihoods,” President Ruto affirmed.

He has also acknowledged the immense potential MSMEs hold in fostering inclusive development, emphasizing that they generate the largest share of employment opportunities in the country.

According to the Head of State, unlocking the sector’s full capacity is essential for national transformation.

“To fully unleash this potential, we are investing in modern infrastructure, formulating progressive policies, and ensuring access to affordable credit,” the President noted, adding that the efforts are geared towards promoting an inclusive and sustainable economic future for all Kenyans.

The World MSME Day, commemorated globally on June 27, is dedicated to recognizing the contribution of small businesses to local and international economies.

This year’s event in Nairobi brought together stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to discuss strategies for strengthening MSME resilience amid global economic uncertainties.

However, President Ruto did not shy away from addressing the growing concern over criminal elements hijacking peaceful protests under the guise of activism. In a stern warning, he vowed decisive action against those who threaten the safety of citizens and businesses.

“For the criminal elements bent on destruction of lives and businesses, we are unequivocal in our determination to deal with the thuggery they have disguised as peaceful protest,” he stated firmly.

His remarks come amid heightened tensions in some parts of the country, where demonstrations have recently escalated into acts of violence and property destruction.

The President reassured the public that the government would protect livelihoods while safeguarding the right to peaceful assembly.

As Kenya continues to position itself as a hub for entrepreneurship and innovation, the President’s message sent a clear signal that while the nation supports freedom and economic empowerment, lawlessness will not be tolerated.
