President Ruto’s lively dance to ‘Anguka Nayo’ lights up Jamhuri Day celebrations

President William Ruto was the unexpected star of the show during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, December 12, 2025. The event, which featured performances from several Kenyan artistes, reached a light-hearted peak when the President decided to join the celebration’s energy.

Earlier in the day, during Iyanii’s performance, the President was already spotted moving to the beat while seated. His excitement was clear, with a non-stop smile as he followed the rhythm from his chair.

However, it was the moment the popular track ‘Anguka Nayo’ started playing that President Ruto could no longer contain his excitement.

He immediately stood up, turned to face the crowd, and began dancing with visible energy.

The President moved enthusiastically to the rhythm of the popular hit. He flashed an ear-to-ear smile and laughed as he moved.

The moment showed a relaxed and informal side of the Head of State.

He enjoyed the spontaneous dance for a short while before taking his seat again, still visibly smiling. The performance instantly created a light moment in the stadium and became one of the key highlights of the lively celebration.

The President’s light-hearted moment fit perfectly into the colourful nature of the annual Jamhuri celebrations.

Jamhuri Day, marked every 12th of December, is one of the most important national holidays, as it celebrates Kenya’s independence.

The day reminds Kenyans of the moment the nation became self-governing and it honours the patriots and freedom fighters who secured the country’s self-rule.

Every year, the day is marked with an outpouring of patriotic messages, photos, and videos online, featuring phrases like “Happy Jamhuri Day” alongside messages of unity and celebration. President Ruto’s spontaneous dance added a playful, memorable element to this national display of joy.
