Probe launched as body of a police officer found floating on River Moiben

Body of a police officer was on Wednesday, April 23 afternoon found floating on River Moiben in Kapsiliot village, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The deceased, Justin Kirui, was 48 years of age and worked at a police station in Kisumu County.

Confirming the incident, Elgeyo Marakwet Police Commander Peter Mulinge said the body of the deceased was discovered floating along River Moiben by residents, who later reported the incident to the police.

According to the police boss, it is believed that the officer fell into the river while he was returning home from visiting a relative in Kapsiliot village.

Residents suspect that the deceased was drunk when attempting to cross the improvised wooden bridge causing him to lose his balance,. falling into the river.

Upon examination of the body, blood oozing from the nose and a fresh cut on the head was noticed. There were rocks below the wooden bridge which might have caused head injury resulting from the falling impact.

The body was moved to the Iten County Referral Morgue pending further investigations
