Residents in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County, are demanding justice after a suspect reportedly died by suicide at Turasha Police Station on Monday, June 23, 2025.
The victim, identified as 44-year-old Simon Ndubi, who police claim was intoxicated at the time of arrest, had been arrested for allegedly obstructing police officers while performing their duties.
According to a police report, at 12:46 pm on Monday, the officer on duty visited Ndubi’s cell and found he had died by suicide inside the cell by hanging himself using his shirt that was tied to the padlock of the inner door.
The family, however, casts doubt on the account given by the police, saying Ndubi was found with his knees touching the ground, which is an unusual position for hanging.
Meanwhile, Githioro Ward MCA Isaac Mbae urged IPOA and DCI to investigate the matter and find the actual cause of Ndubi’s death.
“A middle-aged man was arrested by police in Turasha and later died in custody. We urge IPOA and DCI to investigate because the explanation of how he allegedly hanged himself doesn’t add up—he was found on his knees,” said Mbae.
