Research done by the World Health Organization (WHO) suggests that Mpox is mainly transmitted when people come into close contact with an infected individual, especially family members.
Thus this becomes primary way that M POX is transmitted from person to another, also through mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-skin contact (like kissing) and skin-to-skin contact (like touching or sex),
close contact can also involve being in close proximity to someone who has mpox (such chatting or breathing near one another, which can produce infectious respiratory particle
Signs and Symptoms:
Mpox has signs and symptoms which usually begin within a week, if one is affected they can look out for this kind of sign fever, rash sore throat, headache, back pain, muscle ache
Self care and prevention ;
To prevent the spread and symptoms of the disease the Ministry of Health urge individuals to exercise safe Health habits such as:
a) To keep distance from individuals with symptoms
b) Do not share personal items like towels , utensils and clothing
c) Maintain good hygiene by washing your hands
In addition The principal secretary for public health and professional standards Mary Muthoni met with Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) today to talk about cross-border cooperation in enhancing Mpox health emergency preparedness and response.
In order to effectively address the new health hazards, the summit emphasized the significance of developing a multi-sectoral One Health model that combines the environmental, animal, and human health systems.
Kenya’s commitment to operationalizing the One Health framework as a crucial tactic for improving regional and national health security was reaffirmed by PS Mary Muthoni.
Dr. Fatuma Adan, IGAD Head of Mission to Kenya, and Mr. Mubarak Mabuyu, Director for Health and Social Development, headed the IGAD mission.
Mpox previously known as Monkeypox is a viral illness caused by the Monkeypox virus (MPVX) it is an Infectious disease that can cause a painful rash, enlarged lymph nodes, fever, headache, muscle ache, back pain and low energy.
