PS Umi Bashir presides over graduation of 200 youths in Wajir East DigiTruck Programme

Principal Secretary for Culture and Heritage, Umi Bashir, presided over the graduation ceremony of 200 youths who completed the five-week DigiTruck digital skills training programme at the ICT Hall in Wajir East.

The event was attended by Wajir East MP, Adan Daud, and Wajir County Commissioner Karuku Ngumo, marking a significant milestone in efforts to enhance digital literacy among young people in the region.

Implemented through a partnership with Huawei, the solar-powered mobile classroom provided free, hands-on training in digital skills to underserved youth across the constituency.

Speaking during the ceremony, PS Umi Bashir said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to expanding digital opportunities and ensuring that young people in marginalized areas are not left behind in the technology-driven economy.

She noted that empowering youth with digital competencies is key to unlocking innovation and sustainable livelihoods.

County Commissioner Karuku Ngumo lauded the programme, saying it complements national efforts to promote digital inclusion and youth empowerment.

He encouraged the graduates to utilize the skills gained to explore online jobs and entrepreneurial ventures.

MP Adan Daud emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in transforming communities, stating that investing in digital training equips young people to compete in the global marketplace and contribute to local development.

The DigiTruck programme continues to bridge the digital divide in Wajir East, nurturing a new generation of tech-savvy youth and opening pathways to employment and economic empowerment.
