The Public Service Commission (PSC) has officially announced the 2025 Proficiency Examination for Clerk Officers in its comprehensive public notice dated on July 29, 2025.
Registrations for the exams for applicants will close on 22nd August 2025, with a grace period extended for late applicants until 29th August 2025.
The examinations are scheduled to run from September 22nd to 25th 2025, across nine regional centers in Kenya which are Machakos, Nyeri, Mombasa, Embu, Garissa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega and Eldoret.
Precise venues will be communicated at a later stage to candidates who successfully completed the registration process.
“The Public Service Commission will conduct the 2025 Proficiency Examination for Clerical Officers from Monday, 22nd to Thursday, 25th September 2025 at the following centers,” the PSC notice read.
This national level exam targets clerical officers currently serving in the Public Service and aims to evaluate and confirm their core competencies as required by governmental standards.
In order to be eligible and qualify for the examination, a candidate must have a minimum KCSE mean grade of C– (minus) or its equivalent, be officially designated as a clerical officer in the Public Service and have served for at least one year in the current position.
The PSC have added that registration for the exam requires candidates to download and fill out the correct registration form depending on their exam status.
First-time takers are required to complete Form A, while those re-sitting specific papers must use Form B, both forms are available from the PSC website at www.publicservice.go.ke
Completed forms must be accompanied by the eCitizen payment receipt and submitted to the Secretary/Chief Executive, PSC, P.O. Box 30095–00100, Nairobi, by the registration deadline.
The basic registration fee for the examination fee is Ksh 2,625 and candidates must pay Ksh 875 per paper for up to seven papers with a Ksh 50 e‑Citizen service charge.
Late registration after the August 22, 2025 deadline, attracts an extra penalty fee of Ksh 525 with PSC clarifying that no submissions will be accepted beyond that date.
Payments must be made via the eCitizen platform by accessing https://psc.ecitizen.go.ke.
The PSC has urged all eligible officers to complete the registration and payment processes well before the examination window in order to avoid any last-minute hurdles.
