In December 2022, Beryl, Medgclay Salano’s wife, got pregnant with their fourth child, despite Salano having undergone a vasectomy in July the same year.
The family from Shikoti village in Kakamega County made headlines, raising questions of whether the procedure was correctly done or if it even works.
Speaking in an interview with TV47 on Friday, June 6, Medgclay shed light on the reason as to why he decided to get a vasectomy and what led to his wife getting pregnant despite having undergone the procedure.
Having tried all family planning methods, Medclay said he decided to have a vasectomy when his wife, having taken family planning for over 10 years, started experiencing the side effects, which were wasting her out.
“She had done it [family planning] for a very long time, over 10 years, and it was really draining her and also wasting her out because she was experiencing very advanced side effects,” he said.
After doing thorough research and consultations, he decided to get the vasectomy.
Medgclay explained that after the procedure, he was instructed to abstain for 3 months or use an alternative family planning method. Alternatively, they were told they would be safe after 20 ejaculations.
However, in November 2022, after the procedure, Beryl got pregnant.
“The only fear we had was that at the time our last born was only 6 months old, and my wife had just left CS, hata scar haijapona vizuri. So the only fear we had was, I’m imagining that stomach or womb beginning to expand kwa hio scar,” he narrated.
