Revive Mwea Airstrip, Kirinyaga business community tells President Ruto

Business community in Kirinyaga County has called on the National Government to revive and operationalise Mwea Airstrip so as to ease the transportation of agricultural products both nationally and internationally.

KNCCI Kirinyaga Chapter Chairperson Pauline Wangeshi says the county has stamped its authority as an agricultural hub and thus the need for such important logistics sector to be operationalized.

Wangeshy noted that the county is exporting thousands of tonnes of macadamia and avocado to the European Union and Asian countries, saying that if operational, the airstrip will play an integral role in easing both national and international trade.

Speaking at the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) CEOs dinner in the county, Wangeshi underscored the need for the business community to work as a team so as to reach the markets for the agricultural products.

Dubai Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer Michael Gaitho called upon the business community to take advantage of the various trading agreements signed between Kenya and Dubai so as to increase trade.
