Brazilian football has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of 20-year-old Antony Ylano, a promising striker for Piaui’s Under-20 team.
The young forward lost his life early Monday morning after a horrific road accident in Altos, Piaui, when his motorbike collided with a cow along the BR-343 highway.
According to reports, Ylano was on his way home after celebrating his father’s birthday when the fatal crash occurred.
CCTV footage captured the devastating moment his motorbike struck one of five cows that had wandered onto the road.
The impact threw Ylano violently to the ground, while the animal was seen struggling to move away, injured and disoriented.
Emergency services responded swiftly, but police confirmed that the talented player died at the scene. His sudden death has sent shockwaves across the Brazilian football fraternity, especially as Ylano was scheduled to travel with Piaui’s Under-20 squad to Fortaleza on Tuesday for the Brazil Cup.
In an emotional statement, Piaui Esporte Clube expressed their deep sorrow, saying: “Piaui Esporte Clube is experiencing a moment of profound pain with the loss of striker Antony Ylano.
He had been with us since 2024, helping us win the Piauiense Under-20 Championship and competing in the São Paulo Junior Football Cup and the Under-20 Northeast Cup.”
The club has since suspended all training sessions in honour of their fallen player.
