Role of faith and education in nation building stressed during Kaimosi Friends University 2nd Interdenominational Prayer Breakfast

In a world where science and technology continue to shape the trajectory of societies, the place of faith in nation building may be easily overlooked, despite faith being an essential pillar for sustainable national development.

This was the focus during Kaimosi Friends University’s 2nd Interdenominational Prayer Breakfast and Thanksgiving Service, which convened clergy, university leadership, staff, and students at the institution. Themed “Rooted in Christ, Flourishing in Learning,” the forum underscored the need to nurture graduates who are not only academically proficient but also ethically grounded and socially responsible.

Speaking during the event, Kaimosi Friends University Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita emphasised that aligning knowledge with values is key to producing transformative leaders, citing student achievements in innovation, research, peace advocacy, and community service as evidence of holistic education in action.

“Our students have emerged as champions of peace, earning national recognition in peace advocacy forums. They also participated successfully in the Kenya National Research Festival, presenting innovative, solution-driven projects addressing real societal challenges. Many students demonstrated exceptional creativity through the development of AI technologies, health innovations and other impactful solutions.” Said Prof. Mwita.

He added that in co-curricular activities, students excelled in sports, with the University’s Frisbee team ranking among the best in Africa, while the Debate Club achieved both regional and national success. Students also actively participated in 27 community outreach programmes, including environmental conservation and educational initiatives, reflecting a strong culture of service and responsibility.

Keynote speaker Dr. Reuben Kigame challenged students to anchor their academic pursuit in faith and character, noting that true success is defined and equally sustained by integrity, impact, and service to society.

“Education without character is incomplete. You must be rooted in Christ if you are to flourish not just in academics, but in life. Do not measure success only by grades and accolades. Measure it by the impact you make, the lives you touch, and the integrity you uphold” Dr. Kigame said.

Despite national disruptions caused by industrial action in universities, Kaimosi Friends University maintained academic continuity and institutional harmony, safeguarding the academic calendar and ensuring uninterrupted learning.

The University also recorded progress in governance, infrastructure development and expansion, including the growth of Kobujoi Campus and the establishment of the Vokoli College of Health Sciences.
