Police in Kiambu County have arrested a 26-year-old man believed to be behind a series of violent robberies, recovering a firearm suspected to have been used in the crimes
The arrest happened today, Saturday, August 16, 2025, during a mid-morning intelligence-led operation in Mifereji, Ruaka, where officers moved in swiftly following credible reports linking the suspect to recent violent robberies in Rweno and Kiambaa.
According to police, the arrest marks a significant breakthrough in their pursuit of criminal gangs terrorizing residents in the area.
After his capture, the suspect led officers to his residence, where a Retay Falcon pistol, lacking ammunition, was discovered hidden inside a chicken shed.
Confirming the operation, the National Police Service (NPS) said the weapon has been secured as an exhibit and will undergo ballistic analysis.
“The recovery of this firearm demonstrates our commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring public confidence,” the NPS stated.
Residents of Ruaka and Kiambaa have in recent weeks raised alarm over a spate of robberies, some involving armed assailants. Police say the arrest is part of a wider crackdown targeting violent offenders across the county.
The suspect is currently in custody, with detectives intensifying investigations to establish his accomplices and possible links to past robberies.
“We are following crucial leads and will ensure that those behind these attacks face justice,” said one of the investigating officers.
Authorities have assured the public of their continued vigilance, calling for cooperation in reporting suspicious activities. “Security is a shared responsibility, and we urge residents to work closely with law enforcement,” the NPS emphasized.
The suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb armed crime and safeguard communities across Kiambu and beyond.
