Gospel musician Rueben Kigame has announced plans to contest for the presidency in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on NTV’s Fixing the Nation, Kigame emphasized that this time his intentions are concrete.
“I’m not just hoping – I’m planning to be on the ballot in 2027. We’re preparing to launch officially in the coming weeks. With about two years left until the election, now is the perfect time to begin,” he stated.
Kigame had previously vied for the presidency in 2022 but was blocked from the race by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after failing to meet the required number of endorsement signatures.
His new campaign is rooted in a push for values-based governance. Kigame highlighted the importance of electing leaders of integrity — not just at the national level, but across all levels of government.
“It’s not only about the presidency. We need MCAs, Women Representatives, MPs, and Governors who lead with strong character,” Kigame said, citing long-standing corruption cases like that of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko as examples of why ethical leadership matters.
Kigame urged religious institutions, media outlets, and civil society organizations to create performance scorecards that assess whether public officials are upholding integrity and fulfilling their campaign promises.
He commended Kenya’s youth for their growing role in demanding accountability, transparency, and responsible governance, and encouraged voters to closely evaluate leaders before handing them power.
“We must question whether those seeking office can truly deliver on their promises,” Kigame said.
