Ruto calls on leaders to stop inciting youth and help solve unemployment crisis

President William Ruto has called on national leaders to stop inciting the youth and instead unite to find lasting solutions to the unemployment crisis affecting millions of Kenyans.

“Leaders must resist the urge to incite the youth,” he said when he met the clergy at State House, Nairobi. “Instead, we must work together to find lasting solutions to the challenge of unemployment.”

President Ruto outlined several government interventions already in place. He revealed that labour mobility has enabled 400,000 young Kenyans to secure employment opportunities abroad in the past two years.

“At home, the Affordable Housing Programme has fully engaged 320,000 youth in construction and related jobs, offering them meaningful livelihoods. In the digital sector, another 180,000 young people are currently working in Jitume Labs located in technical colleges and at Tatu City Special Economic Zone. Plans are also underway to establish digital hubs in all 1,450 wards across the country.”

President Ruto also highlighted historic progress in education, announcing the recruitment of 76,000 teachers, with an additional 24,000 set to be hired by January 2026 — making it the largest teacher recruitment drive in Kenya’s history.

He made the remarks after meeting with bishops, pastors, and evangelists from the Federation of Evangelical and Indigenous Christian Churches of Kenya.
