Ruto embarks on strategic foreign tour to Spain, UK

President William Ruto is set to leave the country on Sunday June 29, 2025 for official visits to Spain and the United Kingdom, where he is expected to advance Kenyans’ strategic economic and diplomatic goals, including signing landmark bilateral deals and global finance reforms.

According to a statement from the Executive Office of the President, Ruto will first visit Seville, Spain, to participate in the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development. The Summit brings together global leaders to redefine principles for development financing.

At the summit, he will advocate for renewed multilateralism to address global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and biodiversity loss.

The president is also scheduled to co-chair a high-level session at the summit and hold bilateral meetings with several global leaders , including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and King Felipe VI.

The talks aim to deepen bilateral ties in areas like Youth empowerment, clean energy and climate.

From Spain, Ruto will travel to the UK to sign the renewed Kenya–UK Strategic Partnership 2025–2030 with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

The partnership is structured around four pillars: trade, climate, technology, and security. It aims to double bilateral trade by 2030, enhance digital skills among Kenyans, and boost cooperation on regional stability, terrorism, and cyber threats.

Under the trade and green growth pillar, the two nations will prioritize flagship infrastructure projects such as the Nairobi Railway City. The UK has pledged up to £1.5 billion in new investments to support Kenya’s priority sectors.

On climate action, Kenya and the UK will collaborate to unlock green finance from public, private, and blended sources. The science and technology pillar will see increased investment in Kenya’s innovation ecosystem, including support for start-ups and SMEs, as well as initiatives in artificial intelligence and digital jobs.

During his UK visit, President Ruto will also witness the announcement by Lloyd’s of London to establish a regional underwriting hub in Nairobi under the Nairobi International Financial Centre (NIFC), positioning the city as a key financial gateway for Sub-Saharan Africa.

In addition, the Head of State is set to deliver the keynote address at the Africa Debate, hosted by Invest Africa, where he will champion Kenya’s economic transformation agenda and woo strategic investment.

The visit marks a major diplomatic and economic push by the Kenyan leader to secure long-term growth partnerships and position the country as a central player in global economic and development conversations.
