Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has sparked a national conversation with his recent comments, suggesting that President William Ruto has outperformed his predecessors, Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta.
This comes as a surprising stance from a member of the opposition.
A bold comparison
Kaluma, in a series of social media posts, has challenged Kenyans to be more sincere in their assessment of the current government’s performance.
He argues that many critics are quick to condemn the President but fall silent when his projects succeed.
Kaluma believes Ruto inherited a country in a difficult state and has made significant progress in a short time.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta handed over a wrecked country to President Ruto. Let us not be unfair to President Ruto.”
Kaluma’s comments highlight a growing debate about how to fairly judge President Ruto’s first term, especially in comparison to the legacies of two of Kenya’s most impactful leaders.
A shift in political alignment?
The MP’s remarks have drawn both support and criticism. Some have praised him for being objective, while others, like Senator Okong’o Omogeni, have questioned his motives.
This public support for the President from an opposition figure suggests a complex and shifting political landscape in Kenya.
