The next generation of Kenyan rugby talent will be on display at the Ngong Racecourse as the 2025 Safari 7s Age Grade Category kicks off this Thursday, October 9th, and Friday, October 10th.
The two-day tournament will serve as crucial trials for the national Under 16 teams, with selectors set to choose a provisional squad from the top performers.
The competition features both boys’ and girls’ categories, drawing eight regional teams identified during regional tournaments, alongside a strong Ugandan contingent competing in both sections.
The teams have been divided into three pools in each category:
Boys’ Pools:
- Pool A: Nyanza, Nairobi, Eastern
- Pool B: International Schools, Rift Valley, Central
- Pool C: Western, Coast, Uganda
Girls’ Pools:
- Pool A: Western, Nairobi, Rift Valley
- Pool B: Coast, Central, Uganda
- Pool C: International Schools, Eastern, Nyanza
The opening day promises a thrilling schedule of matches, starting with Nyanza versus Eastern in the Boys’ category at 8:30 AM.
Other key first-day fixtures include Western against Uganda in the Boys’ pools, and Western taking on Rift Valley in the Girls’ competition.
The tournament offers a significant platform for young athletes to showcase their skills, with the ultimate goal of donning the national team colours.
The rigorous selection process underscores the commitment to developing a robust pipeline of talent for Kenyan rugby.
