The 55-year-old music mogul Sean Combs also known as Diddy was found not guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy but convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution under the Mann Act.
The mixed verdict delivered a partial victory for Combs, while still exposing serious legal consequences .
Diddy was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution with each of them carrying a maximum prison sentence of 10 years .
He was also acquitted of racketeering conspiracy; two counts of sex trafficking which was involving his ex-girlfriends Cassie Ventura and another referred to as Jane.
According to prosecutors, Combs allegedly orchestrated drug-fueled “freak-offs,” by transporting women including his ex-partners across state lines to participate in extended sexual encounters with hired sex workers, while Combs watched and recorded .
Despite the graphic evidence like the lubricants found at his homes and testimony describing his practices, the jury found insufficient proof of a structured criminal enterprise under the federal RICO act .
The defense attorneys working on his case stated that all sexual encounters were consensual and that they were challenging claims of portraying Ventura’s lawsuit and settlement as financially motivated.
Legal experts believe the government overreached by framing culturally deviant sexual behavior as organized crime. The jury agreed, clearing Combs of the most serious charges .
