Security chiefs inspect Nyayo and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani stadiums ahead of CHAN 2024 tournament

Preparations for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) have received a boost after top security officials inspected key venues in Nairobi where the matches will take place starting August 2, 2025.

On Friday, August 1, the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Interior and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, and Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, led a high‑level National Security Council delegation to Nyayo National Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The inspection focused on critical areas such as operational zones, changing rooms, entry and exit points, and perimeter security. The team expressed confidence in the arrangements made so far, noting that the venues were well prepared to host the continental tournament.

“We are satisfied with the level of preparedness in terms of security, protocol, and logistical arrangements for the tournament participants,” the officials affirmed during the visit.

The officials underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of players, officials, and fans, emphasizing that security remains a top priority as Kenya readies to host the prestigious tournament.

The inspection comes a day after Nairobi County Traffic Commanding Officer Joseph Chirchir released a statement, outlining the key transport arteries that will be affected during the tournament and the designated alternative routes.

Also present were CECAFA Secretary‑General and Chairperson of the CHAN Local Organising Committee (LOC), Nicholas Musonye; LOC CEO, Myke Rabar; and senior police commanders, including KPS Director of Operations Adamson Bungei, APS Director of Operations Jackson Kangani, and Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Seda.
