Mombasa, Kenya — Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki organised a candlelight vigil in honour of the late Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, a revered statesman, reform champion, and one of Kenya’s most influential political figures.
The solemn event, which took place on Saturday, October 18 evening at the senators office, brought together leaders, residents, and supporters from across the county to pay tribute to the man who dedicated his life to the pursuit of democracy, justice, and national unity.

Senator Faki — who is currently outside the country on parliamentary duties — described the vigil as a moment for reflection and national solidarity, noting that Raila Odinga’s contribution to Kenya’s political transformation and democratic space will remain indelible in the nation’s history.
“The late Raila Odinga was not just a political leader; he was a symbol of resilience and courage. His vision for a just and inclusive Kenya inspired millions and shaped the country’s democratic journey. This vigil is our way of celebrating his life and honouring his legacy,” said Senator Faki.
Raila Odinga, popularly known as Baba, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, marking the end of an era in Kenya’s political history. His death has left the country mourning a man whose life’s mission was to fight for democracy, justice, and unity. He will be laid to rest next to his father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, at Kang’o ka Jaramogi.
