Senior DCI officer surrenders his pistol after shooting incident in Kitengela

A senior police officer surrendered his pistol after being linked to an incident where two men were shot and seriously injured during a fight at a club in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

The officer is based at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters.

Reports indicate that the DCI officer was present at the bar when the shooting happened on Sunday night.

The team handling the case said he surrendered the weapon for ballistic tests to establish if it was involved in the shooting.

However, witnesses told police that the DCI officer used his pistol to shoot at the two men during a confrontation at the bar.

About six cartridges were recovered at the crime scene and sent for tests.

The officer was grilled after surrendering the pistol, although he denied the claims.

Meanwhile, one of the victims remained in the ICU on Wednesday January 27, 2026 as the investigations continued while the second one was also in critical condition.

According to the police, the shooting emanated from the club and extended to the nearby Acacia Road where three of the spent cartridges were recovered.

The owner of the club and his guard were arrested for grilling over the shooting.

The team retrieved security CCTV footage that captured the drama for analysis as part of their probe.

A security camera on the neigbouring structure captured other revelers escaping the scene for their safety as the shooting ensued.
