The Nairobi City County Fire Brigade on Monday, September 22 rescued two children and their mother after a huge fire broke out in Eastleigh’s Biafra estate.
The fire fighters promptly responded to the fire that had broke out in a three-storey residential building, quickly spreading to adjacent temporary structures.
Upon arrival, the firefighters deployed ladders and successfully evacuated one infant to safety. Following containment of the blaze at the main entry point, the rescue operation continued, leading to the safe evacuation of two more children and a middle-aged female from the same building.
The fire, fueled by iron-sheet roofing and timber-walled shanties in a double-decker design, destroyed approximately 500 rooms across two acres of land.
In total, seven casualties were rescued, including the infant, two children, and the adult female.
During the operation, three firefighters sustained cut injuries while battling the flames.
The fire has since been fully contained.
