The Social Health Authority (SHA) says it has disbursed KSh3.4 billion to health facilities nationwide to cater for claims under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 21, Chief Executive Officer Mercy Mwangangi said the funds will cater for inpatient care, drugs and substance abuse treatment, mental wellness, critical care, and surgeries.
She pointed out that an additional KSh1.09 billion has been disbursed from the Primary Health Care Fund, while another KSh1.7 billion is being processed for dialysis, oncology, and surgical claims.
“An updated list of disbursements will be published on the SHA website in due course,” she stated, clarifying reports circulating on social media regarding allocations of funds in hospitals.
Mwangangi revealed that Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital in Homa Bay County received KSh19 million for inpatient long stays and maternity services between January and June 2025. She said that the level 4 hospital has confirmed receipt of the funds.
Dr Mwangangi has said that SHA remains committed to timely payments, accountability, and transparency.
