“Shame on you!” – Alex Mwakideu slams families who abandon their daughters

Celebrated radio presenter Alex Mwakideu has strongly criticised families that abandon their daughters once they reach a certain age, terming the act as neglectful and irresponsible.

Speaking on his Radio47’s ‘Breakfast47’ show alongside co-host Emmanuel Mwashumbe, Mwakideu did not mince his words.

“At what age do we say mtoto wa kike ashakua sasa muache ajitafutie? Shame on you as a family,” he said.

The media personality was reacting to a case featured on the show involving a young girl battling depression because her family allegedly stopped supporting her, even with basic needs such as transport.

“Nataka turegeshe kitu inaitwa Mahakama 47. When a child feels like a family imemuachilia kabisa, haijali atasoma aje, haijali ataenda hospitali aje? At what age? It is very bad, by the way,” he lamented.

Mwakideu expressed deep concern over children who struggle silently despite having families. He described the pain of being neglected by one’s own relatives, saying, “Nothing hurts more than being in a family that neglects you. Shame on you.”

According to him, turning away from children simply because they have reached a certain age is wrong. He emphasised that responsibility does not end abruptly and that love and care should remain consistent.

As a father of three daughters, Mwakideu spoke from a place of personal conviction and empathy. His remarks reflected both frustration and compassion for young people who feel abandoned.

Beyond his on-air advocacy, Mwakideu is known to be a devoted family man. He and his wife recently celebrated 11 years together on Saturday, December 27, 2025 — a milestone he has proudly shared publicly.

Through his platform, the veteran presenter continues to call for stronger family support systems and accountability in parenting.
