Shujaa battle for promotion to World Series in high-stake Brazil leg

Kenya’s national rugby sevens team, Shujaa, will be aiming to seal promotion to the top tier when they compete in the third and final leg of the HSBC Sevens Division Two in São Paulo, Brazil, this weekend.

Heading into the decisive round, Shujaa sit third on the standings with 32 points, following consistent performances that saw them claim bronze medals in both Nairobi and Montevideo.

The Kevin Wambua-coached side now faces a crucial test as they seek to maintain a top-three finish and secure a place in next season’s HSBC Sevens World Championship.

Kenya will open their Brazil campaign against table leaders Germany on Saturday at 4:22 pm, in what promises to be a high-stakes clash.

They will then take on Canada later in the day at 10:22 pm, as they look to build momentum early in the tournament.

On Sunday, Shujaa will return to action against the USA, who are level on points with Germany at the top of the standings, before wrapping up their fixtures against Uruguay in another potentially decisive encounter.

Germany currently lead the standings with 38 points, tied with the USA, while Uruguay remain Kenya’s closest challengers, trailing by just four points.

This sets up a tightly contested final leg where every match could determine the promotion race.

The stakes are clear for Shujaa a top-three finish will guarantee their return to the elite Core IRB Sevens Series next season.

With strong form and growing confidence, the Kenyan side will be looking to deliver when it matters most and reclaim their place among rugby sevens’ top nations.
