Siaya Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have dismissed claims that they rejected President William Ruto’s State House invitation.

Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the MCAs clarified that the meeting with the President was postponed due to the absence of Governor James Orengo, who is out of the country.

Led by County Assembly Majority Leader Richard Otieno, the leaders disclosed that the meeting that was initially scheduled for Wednesday, May 14, was postponed to next week as they wait for Governor Orengo to return from abroad.

Otieno’s sentiments were echoed by other MCAs, who emphasized their preparedness to meet the President at State House. 

“Some of our county’s top leadership officials were still away, and we wanted it to be an all-inclusive trip, and that is why we had to wait for the others to come back, and that is why the meeting was postponed,” said Otieno.

The MCAs had received the invitation letter on May 12, 2025 from County Senator Oburu Odinga, who shared it with them on behalf of the State House.

“The top leaders within the county were the ones who initially received the invitation and later informed us about the planned meeting with the President,” said North Ugenya MCA Benard Adala.

“We were informed about the State House meeting yesterday. When we enquired about the details of the planned meeting, we were told that the invitation was sent to us through our Senator, Dr Oburu Odinga,” Madingu reiterated.

At the same time, the MCAs dismissed claims of planning to impeach Governor Orengo over his controversial political stance.
