Siaya university students declare support for Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid

University and college students from Siaya County have thrown their weight behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid, vowing to shun street protests and instead pursue constructive engagement with the government.

Speaking to journalists in Bondo town, student leaders from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology and other institutions said they were dismayed by ongoing political wrangles among Luo leaders over the community’s direction ahead of the 2027 elections.

Joel Odidi who is the Secretary General of the Nyanza Youth Progressive Movement, said that the students fully support the position of ODM party leader Dr. Buru Oginga, who has urged the community to work with President Ruto under the broad-based government arrangement.

Clinton Omondi Oyaya, another student leader, echoed the sentiments, likening Ruto’s leadership to a “journey to Singapore” that would transform Kenya into a world-class economy.

Wycliffe Angwenyi praised the president’s Nyota Fund initiative, noting that it had helped steer young people away from being used in protests.

The students insisted they would not be drawn into political confrontations aimed at boosting individual careers, stressing that their focus was on supporting government programs that deliver tangible benefits to the community.
