Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has strongly criticised the joint Parliamentary Group meeting between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), saying it disrespects the legacy of the late Raila Odinga.
The meeting was convened to review the progress of the 10-point agenda that had been agreed upon by Raila and President William Ruto.
However, Sifuna argued that the gathering misrepresented what the former opposition leader intended.
In a strongly worded post on his X account, the ODM Secretary-General accused leaders involved in the meeting of invoking Raila’s name while allegedly undermining his vision.
“Baba they have woken up today to mock your Legacy while swearing in your name.
You do not have to be an English Professor to understand what Baba wanted. It’s there in black and white,” Sifuna wrote.
He added that the agreement had a clear structure on how progress was supposed to be monitored.
“Progress reports to him every two months and a final report to the Public last Saturday.
Now they are putting words in a dead man’s mouth. Give us a signal, Jakom!” he stated.
Sifuna’s remarks come amid growing speculation about closer cooperation between ODM and UDA in Parliament.
The senator has consistently opposed both the proposed partnership and the framework of the 10-point agenda.
According to him, the agreement lacks clear timelines and accountability mechanisms.
“The plan is mostly aspirational with no timelines, measurable objectives, or accountability frameworks,” he said.
The outspoken senator warned that the ongoing engagements risk turning into political symbolism rather than meaningful reform efforts.
His comments have also echoed concerns from some party members who believe the leadership may be bypassing established ODM procedures in favour of highly publicised displays of cooperation with UDA.
The debate continues to stir discussions within the party as questions emerge over the future direction of ODM and its relationship with the ruling coalition.
