Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leader Kasmuel McOure has dismissed any possibilities of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna reclaiming his position as the party’s Secretary-General.
Kasmuel said the decision to remove Sifuna from the powerful administrative position was final and would be upheld by party delegates in the upcoming National Delegates Convention (NDC).
“Sifuna will not be coming back as SG because we intend to uphold this decision as delegates of the party at the National Delegates Convention (NDC). He’s going to court and we have said that it’s fine, he can go and be the SG of the court. We will continue as a party, he was detrimental to the party’s position. Those hyping him can take him to be their SG!” McOure said on Tuesday, February 17 during an interview with Radio Generation.
McOure also emphasized that the party remains united despite internal disagreements, adding that ODM’s structures and loyal membership remains intact.
“I am in the only ODM that makes resolutions, the ODM that says “left,” and the party goes left; when it says “right,” the party goes right.
“I will be part of the people who will be championing for the president’s re-election amongst the youth,” he stated reffering to President William Ruto.

The youth leader further dismissed claims that the party was weakening after the removal of Sifuna, arguing that ODM has survived greater political challenges in the past, including the loss of former Prime Minister and ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.
“As a party, we have already faced our biggest loss (the loss of Raila), and through so much pain, the party still stands. So, people who are threatening us that since we have lost the SG, it will counter the party’s position, you are only talking about the numbers that have left ODM; you are not talking about the numbers that are still in the party.
So, is the spirit of Baba where teargas is thrown? The spirit of Baba cannot be where there is maendeleo? We will win the 2027 elections decisively, it will not be easy, but we will win,“ Kasmuel McOure stated.

Sifuna, who served as ODM Secretary General for nine years, making him the party’s longest-serving SG, addressed the press on February 12, 2026, defending his leadership and political stance.
“My only crime is that I have refused and I oppose any plans and schemes within the party to support President William Ruto’s re-election,” Sifuna said.
His removal has exposed deep divisions within ODM over the party’s political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election, particularly on whether to cooperate with or oppose the current administration.
