Six accused persons charged in a robbery with violence case linked to the 2015 killing of former Kabete MP George Muchai have been convicted after the court found that the prosecution had proved its case against them.

In a judgment delivered at the Milimani Law Courts on March 13, 2026, the court ruled that the evidence presented by the prosecution sufficiently linked several of the accused persons to a series of violent robbery incidents, including the attack in which Muchai was killed.

The court found the first, second, third and fourth accused persons guilty on multiple counts of robbery with violence and convicted them accordingly.

Trial magistrate Lukas Onyina held that the prosecution had proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt based on the testimony of victims and other evidence presented during the trial.

According to the ruling, the first accused was identified as the person carrying a large firearm during the robbery incidents. The court noted that witnesses consistently testified that the robbers were four men who were unknown to the victims prior to the attacks.

The judge further stated that the victims’ evidence across the different robbery incidents was consistent and supported the prosecution’s case regarding the number of attackers and how the robberies were carried out.

The court also convicted several accused persons on additional counts related to other robbery incidents connected to the case. However, one of the accused persons was acquitted after the court found that the evidence against him was insufficient.

In delivering the ruling, the magistrate said the seventh accused person had been exonerated by his own evidence and that the prosecution had failed to place him at the scene of the crimes. The court also noted that witnesses did not report seeing any woman among the attackers during the robberies.

As a result, the seventh accused person was acquitted and ordered to be set free.

The court emphasized that while identification evidence formed part of the case, there was additional evidence linking several of the accused persons to the robberies.

The case stems from a 2015 attack in Nairobi in which Muchai, then the Kabete Member of Parliament, was fatally shot alongside members of his security team during a robbery incident.

Sentencing for the convicted accused persons is expected to be scheduled at a later date.
